Kishor kumar is a singer I can talk about for days. One post won’t be enough to write everything I can say about the legend. He was an actor, producer, writer, composer, singer and much more. He had knowledge of everything in his field. This could be one of the reasons I think he’s a gift of God. It is really hard to believe that one man can have these many talents.
He ruled Hindi cinema for almost 4 decades. He acted in one of the all time classical movies like ‘Chalti ka naam gadi’, ‘Padosan’, ‘Dilli ka thug’, ‘Half ticket’, ‘Jhumaroo’ and many more. He’s chemistry with Madhubala in the song ‘Ek ladki bhigi bhagi si’ is still the most natural chemistry I’ve seen.
Speaking of his direction and writing, ‘Dur gagan ki chaav me’ is a masterpiece. A song in this movie ‘Aa chal ke tuze’ is fresh even today. You will definitely think of someone you truly love while listening to this song. About this song he composed, wrote and sung this song.
He started playback singing for Superstar ‘Dev Anand’, then he was voice of ‘Rajesh Khanna’ and after that he was voice of ‘Amitabh Bachchan’. He sung songs for a number of stars in Bollywood but no one was a super star after these three.
He sang more than a thousand songs so I’m not gonna list the top 10, 20 or 50 songs he sang. Trust me, listing his songs is a very difficult task. He was a second version singer for some of songs sung by Md. Rafi, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Day and Asha Bhosale. Songs like ‘Tum bin jaaun kaha’, ‘O saathi re’, ‘Mere naina saawan bhado, ‘Ye dosti hum nahi chodenge’, ‘EK din bik jayega’, ‘Jaanu meri jaan’ but eventually his version turned out more popular than 1st versions of most of these songs.
He has a record of most filmfare awards winner 8 times and Most number of nominations 28 times. He won 4 filmfare awards a row for best playback singer from 1983 – 1986. The legend left the world at the peak of his career in 1987. He was successful till his last breath.
Someone who never learned music, still known as one of the best singers of Hindi cinema. He was really a gift of god.
