Hello Dear Readers,
Based on the last blog I have picked this topic for conveying my thoughts (that you can cross question anytime) about why Testers need to be more intelligent? Don’t get me wrong by thinking Testers are dumb! -> NO, THEY ARE NOT!!
Now, coming to the main issue what I mean by saying “Testing need more intelligent people than Development does”.
Is Automation everything?
No, let me frankly tell you that Automation is mere a branch of testing that’s reducing the work of another fellow Tester. Don’t take in wrong way, I am not saying you’re responsible for snatching a bread off someone’s plate. Rather than that you’re making your company profitable with some certain repetitive scripts.
You might think why I am mixing this topic with Automation is everything? That’s a baseline for what I am about to say further. If we remove that question half of the blog becomes baseless. There’s so much hype going on around automation and testing, so whenever we hear Testing; Automation Testing comes into the picture. You might think that we know this already. But do you know how much of this industry is taking you to the narrow lines of decision making? I know there are multi-level of Automation for almost every platform. What a change and the change is inevitable! (Thano’s SNAP).
But my point is if you are a tester then no one should tell you what tool you should be using for testing. And you will say “Chetan, aren’t you talking about pre-historic time of testing?”
My answer will be always “No”.
Why?
Because, as we are moving to the specialization of anything forget testing for an instance; we keep on forgetting the actual value of the action. What are we doing? Why that matters so much (to me, to my company, to the product)? And we keep on doing things for the name’s sake.
This needs to be stopped. I know it’s quite impractical to avoid and deny what’s happening around. But you CAN ALWAYS CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT. Even you can create something new tool that nobody has ever thought. There are ‘N’ number of tools are available in market and all of them are man-made.
Most of them are made by Tester’s Community. So, choose wisely what you want to be than what is required to survive in the market. And that’s why Testing need more intelligent people than Development. And we can do it.
Another reason is if a developer tells you how to test a software, don’t listen to him/her. Because if you are doing something that is obvious then you are missing the details. Being a tester, you should never do the obvious things firsthand (also don’t forget to test obvious things).
There’s a great line in Sherlock Holmes (so, don’t miss that too). I feel pride to tell you this, a great tester is made great by the ideas and not by any tool or language.

Below are the points need to be revised by both testers and developers.
1. Don’t judge the book by its cover. Irrespective of type of testing the tester is choosing, stop labeling it. Whether S/He is a Manual Tester or Automation Tester, respect him/her for the profession that person is having. It’s not an easy job either like almost every job.
2. Don’t feed the ideas to Testers directly. It happens lot of times whenever Tester feel down and dead like while understanding a story (a unit/module that can be delivered in a software). And s/he can jump on conclusions about what needs to be tested? They normally tend to ask this question about How to test? So, if you’re a developer and reading this blog- please let them know What to test and nothing else.
Think on this and let me know your thoughts. Till then.
Ciao!

I think testing and development should not even be seen as two separate things. A Software Engineer should also write tests with full coverage. And this is the practice what we at Avalara R&D are all the FAAMG companies already follow.
Thanks For feeding valuable information as your view towards tester❣️😊
