Whenever I ask ‘Who’s your favorite music composer (Speaking of Indian music)?’ to my friends and colleagues with really great taste in music; mostly they say A.R. Rehman, Ilayaraja, R.D. Burman, Shankar Jaykishan. Yes, all of them are great, but today I’m gonna write about a rare musical gem ‘Vishal Bhardhwaj’.
He doesn’t repeat same kind of music arrangements or pattern, most of his songs are situation based. Not like we want an entry song so let’s make a dance number. You can see real variety in his career.
Here are some songs of Vishal Bhardwaj you may love listening to one more time.
- ‘Jungle jungle baat chali hai’ – The Jungle Book
- ‘Goli maar bheje mai’ ‘Sapne me milti hai’ and ‘Tu mere paas bhi hai’ – Satya
- ‘Chod aye hum wo galiya’ & ‘Chappa Chappa’ – Maachis
- ‘Chhai Chhappa Chhai’ – Hu tu hu
- ‘Jag ja’, ‘Namak’, ‘Beedi’ and ‘Omkara’ – Omkara
- ‘O saathi re’ – Omkara
- ‘Dhan te nan’, ‘Pehli bar mohabbat’, ‘Rat ke dhai baje’ – Kaminey
- ‘Ib-ne-batuta’, ‘Dil toh baccha hai ji’ – Ishqiya
- ‘Bismil’, ‘Aao na’, ‘So jao’ – Haider
- ‘Ye ishq hai’ – Rangoon
As a child, my favorite song was ‘Jungle jungle baat chali hai’, the theme song of Jungle Book in hindi. This is still one of my favorite songs.
This is one more unique song from my childhood which I still listen to. Even today when I listen to this song, I feel stress free.
Maachis is the album which made me fall in love with Vishal Bhardwaj. This album featured a trio of Suresh Wadekar, Gulzaar and Vishal Bhardwaj. The trio gave many more classical songs after Maachis.
I haven’t watched the movie yet, it is on my watchlist of old bollywood movies. But here I’m talking about songs, when I listen to this song, it goes on a loop. Everything about the song is just perfect.
Omkara is one more album which had a song ‘Jag ja’ featuring the trio. Namak was the 1st song sung by Rekha Bhardwaj And the title track gave us one more trio, this time singer was Sukhwindar Singh.
If i’m not wrong this is the 1st song sung by the composer himself along with Shreya Ghosal. Listening to this song before bedtime will definitely take you to a different world.
This album also has both the trios, Sukhwindar singh with ‘Dhan te nan’ and Suresh Wadekar with ‘Raat ke dhai baje’.
Whenever I’m travelling and any of these two songs gets played once I can hear it on loop. Vishal Bhardwaj also sung ‘Dil toh baccha hai ji’ in an episode of MTV unplugged.
This album has deep meaning songs; Writing is one of the best things about Haider, weather it is the movie or songs
This song is sung by Arijit Singh, the female version is by Rekha Bhardwaj. I haven’t watched the movie and neither am I planning to watch it but this song is also a masterpiece from the composer.
